Have you ever wondered how the United Nations work and how countries negotiate issues among each other? The National Model United Nations (NMUN) offers the unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into this topic.
The NMUN is the largest simulation of United Nations negotiations for students. Every year about 5000 students from all over the world attend the conference. The different delegations each represent a country or a non-governmental organization. The conference takes place in New York every year in spring. The opening and closing ceremonies are held at the UN headquarters. The rest of the conference will take place at the New York Hilton Midtown (6th Ave. at 53rd St.), where we will also have our accommodation.
Next year’s conference will be held from Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 17, 2022.
Participiants from all fields of study who are interested in international relations and diplomacy are encouraged to apply.
In charge:
Dr. Klara Sekanina, Director of the Swiss Study Foundation
Pascale Speck (head delegate) & Letizia Schlegel (head delegate), students of the Swiss Study Foundation
Number of participants: 15 to 18
Working language: English for both the conference and preparatory meetings. Good English skills are therefore required from all applicants.
Preparation:
During the run-up to the conference in April, the delegation will prepare itself to represent the chosen country as realistically as possible. The preparation will be at times quite intensive, including at least four meetings, participation at which is mandatory.
1st meeting: Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 13:00 to 17:00. This meeting is meant for the delegates to get to know each other and to get an idea of what lies ahead of them.
2nd meeting: Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 09:30 to 17:00
3rd meeting: Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 13:00 to 17:00
4th meeting: Monday, March 27, 2022 from 18:00 – Sunday, February 20, 2022 until 17:00. During this weekend a small-scale simulation of the NMUN will be carried out to make the delegates become acquainted with NMUN proceedings.

Place: New York City, USA
